How long will we be sitting ducks?
The terrorists know fully well that India is an easy and soft target. Till now we had the foreign hand triggering blasts, with a few active sympathisers. But of late, we have full-fledged terrorist organisations that are active.
It is time the politicians stop condemning such attacks or blaming it on ISI. Even if ISI is behind this, what are we doing to preempt terrorist activity. We have hardly any intelligence to stall surprises. Add to it the state-centre spat. The blame game continues for a few days with the Home Minister announcing that the state government (which controls the state police) was forewarned. And the nothing is done.

Of course, Indians are sitting ducks for terror groups. But then, that is not very surprising because as a race, we Indians are incredibly fatalistic and like to leave everything to God, including our lives. And, politicians and our netas being one of us, what more can one expect from them? Just take a look at one example. The US of A had one terror attack and there hasn’t been anymore attacks after that, even though there have been threats galore from various terror outfits. I am sure, the FBI and CIA have been quietly going about in their trademark style, eliminating terror suspects, freezing their accounts, stopping flow of funds to these groups, or maybe, even negotiating with them to take their terror tactics, elsewhere in the world, in return for being given a free run. As for Osama, maybe he has been given a lifelong annuity that allows him to lead a comfortable life and surface from oblivion now and then and mouth some profanities and threats against the rest of the world and disappear again for a few months. And, what about us? Well, we haven’t even been able to hang Afzal Guru, let alone track down other terrorists. At the risk of sounding stupid, I think we should get into a deal with the CIA to train our Intelligence sleuths,especially regarding lessons in how to stay physically fit!You do not really expect a potbellied constable to run after a terrorist and catch him, even after he has been seen planting a bomb!
We are soft targets because we do not retaliate. Take the example of Israel, how they respond if something happens to their citizens.I believe its the politicians who have brought the nation to this level. Have you ever heard that any politician has been killed in a terror attack and when something happens to them, we just free the terrorists. The life of the daughter of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is more important than the others. Why can’t we take decisive action against Pakistan. Our politicians don’t want to do so because then the politics of vote bank and appeasement will disappear and lalus, mayawatis, mulayams will have nothing to do. However, the citizens will understand the game plan and may be in the next decade we will have courage to respond in the same manner as Israel does.
We are not just sitting ducks, we have no value for human life, we never had. How many of us remember as to the number of people who perished in the Bombay train blasts, but the whole World knows that 57 people lost their lives in UK blasts three years back.
It is the problem with our laidback attitude that in spite of having a volatile situation at hand, we are never prepared .
